Free port boat tours booked out.
19th January 2010
Nearly 2,300 Aucklanders have signed up for free boat tours of the Waitemata harbour and seaport over Auckland Anniversary Weekend.
Ports of Auckland spokesperson Catherine Etheredge said the boat tours were now fully booked, even though the company had increased the size of the tour boat and added two extra trips to its programme in response to the unprecedented demand.
A record ten tours over two days will now be held.
Ms Etheredge said anyone who had missed out on an Anniversary Weekend tour could book a regular Ports of Auckland public boat tour by phoning 0800 360 3472. Public boat tours run fortnightly on Tuesdays, with the first trip for 2010 scheduled for 19 January.
Ports of Auckland also funds free boat tours for Auckland school groups. The educational tours can be booked through the Maritime Museum on 373 0800.
Other Auckland Anniversary weekend activities include the Auckland Seafood Festival and Auckland International Buskers Festival.
Ports of Auckland is a sponsor of the historic Oceanbridge Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta, which will be held on Monday 1 February.
Regatta highlights include a tugboat parade, starting at the Viaduct Harbour at 9 am, followed by a popular favourite, the annual tugboat race.
