Kiwi release on Motuihe on the 9th, 10th, 11th and 13th of March 2010
10th March 2010
Kiwis, rarely seen in the wild and well camouflaged to
an untrained eye, will be in close view for a lucky few on this unique occasion, the release of a 26 little spotted kiwi planned for Tuesday 9th, Wednesday 10th, Thursday 11th and Saturday 13th March. You can be apart of this exclusive and unforgettable experience with 360 Discovery!
A team from the Motuihe Trust will travel across to Kapiti Island with highly trained kiwi dogs to catch 26 kiwi and transport them across to Motuihe for release. These kiwi will join the 14 kiwi previously released on the island in March 2009.
Where your experience will begin… You’ll enjoy a leisurely sailing to the paradise island of Motuihe, followed by a 30-45 minute walk along a grass track to the Kiwi release site. After the release you will have the opportunity relax at the Tree Nursery for a cup of tea, before heading back to Auckland City. Spaces for this special event are limited though, so be quick to book your place for a truly magical "kiwi" day!
Tickets are $25 per person
